the word we're getting is the two officers who were shot are okay. one officer shot in the lower back, the other in the chest. all of this happened around 3:30 this morning here in bed sty. we have cell phone video to show you. the exact circumstances are unclear but we know there was a car involved. you can see many gunshots to that vehicle and front end damage. the suspect was shot multiple times. we are getting word that that suspect, as of now, is still alive. again, two officers hit by gunfire. one in the bull lest resistant vest. we mentioned commissioner bratton arriving on the scene. he visited the injured officers at the hospital. he has now arrived here and getting an update from the officers at the scene.

the other may have been shot in the chest but was protected by the vest. i'm told they are going to be okay. this is where the mayor and police commissioner are expected later on this morning. as marcus reported, the commissioner is over at the scene where the two officers were shot. he is expected here later on this morning, probably with the mayor. we are waiting for them here. some police brass have already arrived at the hospital. they will be visiting with the officers, also with the officers' families. then they will be briefing us on the conditions of the two officers and exactly what happened there at the scene of the shooting early this morning. again, we're told these officers are going to be okay. we'll keep you posted on any updates. dave evans, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> good to know they're going to be okay. of course when that press conference happens, we'll bring that to you live. you can stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of this news. we will continue to update you, of course, as we learn anything new throughout the morning.

our area died under what police are calling suspicious circumstances. a moment of silence was held before last night's basketball game at buffalo state for former teammate bradley doily. the 21-year-old died thursday. he grew up in brooklyn and majoring in business. he was supposed to graduate this spring >> as a parent, you work hard to send your kid do school to get an education. to get news like this, you know, it's not cool. >> he was one of the nicest guys that i knew. >> investigators have not said how doily died. fraternity alpha phi alpha has been suspended, meantime from, that school and by its national governing body. we go back to our top story right now this morning. two cops have been shot.

teenager police say went on the attack at the silver spur diner teenager police say went on the attack at the silver spur diner wednesday. cops are also trying to identify his companions. the victim had to get 137 stitches from his cheek to his chin. he spoke to us but did not want to show his badly scarred face. >> i hope you find them and arrest them. people out there on the street out here. >> he says the teen attacked after he asked him to leave because he was asking customers for money to support his basketball team. a man is waking bars this morning after a three-day crime spree on the upper west side of manhattan. police linked the crimes after saying the suspect stabbed a man after refusing to give up his iphone. ronald smith was charged with robbery in connection with the attack on thursday. he is now charged with four other crimes ranging from robbery to of a weapon and menacing. the nypd released a new surveillance image in manhattan meantime. police are trying to identify this man. take a look. they say the suspect slashed a shopper on the face outside of a store in soho after the victim refused to hand over some shopping bags. new this morning, police are trying to find the man who took off with nearly $2,000 worth of merchandise from a bronx video game store. police say this man picked up a display case inside of a game stop that contained $1900 worth of video games. coming up on "eyewitness news" saturday morning edition, two officers shot in brooklyn. we'll have the latest on that and expecting the commissioner to speak briefly.

stuy. this breaking news, two housing officers shot in brooklyn. >> right now, we have on the kelly. good morning, sir, can you hear us? >> yes, i can. >> what are you hearing at this hour about exactly how this happened and most importantly, how the two officers are doing? >> well, obviously, this is still pretty early in the investigation, but first, the thank god. that's very good news. i think one officer is being operated on. the other, i think as you said, was shot in his bullet- resistant vest. the information i have is that at about 3:20 this morning, police officers in plain clothes, anti-crime officers from ps-3 in brooklyn were following an individual who they believed to have a gun.

he starts to go the wrong way down the street. i think he was on lexington avenue. this is put out on the police radio and marked radio cars started to respond. he crashes into one of those radio cars, gets out of the car, and starts shooting at the officers who were following him. that's when the two officers returned fire and perhaps other officers there as well fired. the individual was struck. he is in very serious condition at the hospital. as you said, the officers are being treated in the hospital. at this juncture, it looks like they are going to be ultimately okay. obviously serious wounds any

god it doesn't seem to be fatal at this time. >> can you tell us, you said these were plain clothed officers. we know they were working with housing. do they normally wear bulletproof vests, sir? >> yes. these are anti-crime officers. i don't know -- the distinction is not necessarily an important one. these are police officers in the new york city police department that happened to be assigned to the housing bureau, but they are doing anti-crime work in the police department. that's where officers wear plain clothes, but certainly, they are wearing bullet resistant vests. they were doing their job. they were out trying to arrest people with guns. apparently, they got information about this individual carrying a gun, and they were surveilling him.

gets in the car, goes the wrong way and strikes a radio car. >> in layman's terms, can you explain the function of anti- crime cops? obviously all cops to some extent are anti-crime. specifically do? >> this goes back to the early 1970s when the nypd and each of its precincts and units decided to put officers in civilian clothes, looking specifically to arrest individuals who commit crimes of violence. robberies, assaults, that sort of thing. every unit has them. certainly every precinct and every psa district has them. they do great work. it can be dangerous, difficult

it is a vital function in this department and has done a great job for a long time. >> are we seeing too many of these shootings? of course we are, but are we seeing a disproportionate number? >> reporter: well, you know, one shooting is one too many. it's hard to say. they come in groupings and sometimes they go for a while. this is a city of a half million people and police contacting -- you know, people did a survey saying 23 million contacts with the citizens each year by the department. most of them, the vast peaceful. not. so i don't know if we can say that there's a trend here, but i think what's important here is that all indications are that the police officers are going to be okay. >> are you hearing anything just yet in terms of who these

were they rookies, veterans, any detail as long those lines? >> i'm not going to mention that because i'm not certain if all of the notifications have been made concerning their next of kin. so we'll let that go. >> understood. understood. what is the process after an officer is shot in terms of making those notifications? what is the procedure in an incident like this? >> well, probably in this situation, what you would ideally like to have happen is the officers call their loved ones on the telephone and tell them that they are okay. i've been hurt but i'm fine. the department will send transportation to take whoever they want to the hospital and visit with the officer. ideally, you are concerned about the loved ones hearing it through the media.

made by the officer, that's, you know, that's the best way. if the officer isn't able to do it, then official notification process, you know, a high- ranking officer will be sent out to notify them. >> commissioner, these anti- crime officers deal with the public all the time, do they not? a lot of what they get, they get from people who were sort of on a crime watch themselves on the streets and appreciate them being there. >> i hope so, yes. i mean, some of the information that they received from people in the neighborhood, you know, you always try to strengthen that relationship. they get information a lot of different ways. this is in central brooklyn. you know, there's a fair amount of violence in that area. so these officers have a, you know, a demanding job and dangerous job in that area, but they get information in a variety of ways. >> commissioner, i don't want

you have to overspeculate, but i think for most people, the idea of someone firing at the cops is unthinkable. in the cases you've seen and dealt with yourself, what drives someone risk and find the audacity to shoot at a police officer in most cases? generally speaking, is there something that drives a person to that level of crime and taking that kind of risk? >> the individual may be on drugs of some sort. they may be wanted for some other crime. we don't know, obviously. the investigation is beginning. we're not sure what motivates this type of action. you think a logical normal person thinks, how could you ever do this? you know, it happens.

it's hard to say what's in this individual's background. as i say, he's in the hospital now in very serious condition. >> commissioner, is there any possibility that he did not know that these were police officers? >> oh, i don't know. i can't speculate on that. this will be the source of a detailed investigation. >> obviously, we give a great deal of attention to crime in the city. we know bed-stuy tends to be a hot spot in the city. was that your experience as well, and particularly in that area, why do things seem to be so rough? >> i just think historically we've seen higher areas of crime in certain areas. crime has gone down generally throughout the city, and that is a good thing. some areas will have more than

that is the reality that crime is higher in this particular area than in other areas. the police officers are put on patrol in civilian clothes at 3:00 in the morning to address the higher level of crime. i think generally speaking the tactics and strategies have worked. they are our front lines. unfortunately, you will have casualties. business. it takes a lot of guts and fortitude to do the work that they do. >> what are they specifically trained to look for in plained clothes specifically? >> depends on what type of information they have. there may be people in certain areas that have guns and maybe

you can build up that expertise fairly quickly to determine if someone may be carrying a weapon or not. they become quite expert at it fairly early on when you do this sort of work. so it's a necessary part of policing, and i think generally speaking, it's been done well in new york city for quite a while. >> so this happened after the suspect was in a car, police had been radioed, and he was going the wrong way in lexington in bed-stuy. crashed into the radio police car. the two officers in plain clothes heard he had a gun in the car, and then after the crash, he got out and started to shoot at the officers. the officers were in a car or no, they were on foot? >> no i believe the officers were following him in a car. i believe there were three officers in that car.

spotted the officers following him in a car. he then takes off, allegedly hits the police car, a radio car, not the car that the officers with are in, gets out and starts shooting. how many officers actually fired, i'm not certain. as we know, two of the officers were struck. >> certainly the news we're getting at this hour is they did not suffer life-threatening injuries and that certainly is good news. commissioner, thank you for taking a couple of minutes with us this morning. as always, it's appreciated. >> thank you. it's always tough to start the weekend off with tough news, but again, the officers are expected to be okay after being shot in bed-stuy at 3:30 this morning. >> prayers for their families. >> absolutely. that call in the middle of the night has to be an awful moment for the commissioner, for the families, for their colleagues on the force. >> makes sense about the procedure that they love to have the officers call and say here's what happened.

i'm okay, but here's what's >> very human. the big headline this weekend is how mild the temperatures are. here we roll into late february, mid to late february. we could still have snowstorms this time of year. >> don't say that. >> instead, we've forecasted low 60s. even in the last temperature reading, we could see 60s. already the warm-up is under way. 43 degrees. we went from the upper 30s late degrees. so the normal this time of year is already beat before we are at 7:00 in the morning. conditions expected. the last time we were at this temperature was december 11th where we had five, six days in the 60s. this one doesn't last that long.

bringing the storms in and a through. i-95, maybe you see a quick- moving shower come through. slick. be aware if you have to travel early on, a quick-moving shower is traveling east of the city. temperatures are 15 to 25 degrees warmer than this time. this trend continues into the afternoon. up to 30 degrees warmer than we were yesterday at the same time. so really a nice, mild forecast, easy to take temperatures, and it looks like we'll make it into the upper 50s and low 60s with the trend that's in place right in the futurecast, watch the temperatures soaring into the 50s across the board down the jersey shore. you see the polar bear plunge is today. 60 degrees on land and then the water temperature is closer to the 40s. so that's a mild, mild plunge

sunday morning, we start in the 40s again and seizeyly get back into the 50 degree range. things really change, though, on sunday afternoon. showers by 8:00, 9:00 and maybe even brief snow coming through sunday into monday. a new air mass coming in on monday still above average. potentially feels a little colder because it is originating from the north. that will make it feel chilly, especially compared to the numbers we've got here nor saturday and sunday. your accuweather breaks down like this. light rain to the south, light snow to the north and coming in very late. then you've got on monday 43 degrees. we drop it down to 41 with clouds on tuesday. here's what we're looking at as a potential for a winter storm. tuesday and wednesday, these are storms that really are tracking just to the west of us, and so temperatures remain

marcus. >> reporter: we're still in the early stages of the incident injured. as we've been reporting, they are expected to be okay. we want to show you a picture of the weapon that was recovered at the scene. police say this was the weapon used by the suspect that fired at police early this morning. now, there's also some cell it unfolded. we have a little more detail now as to what happened. it was around 3:30 in bed-stuy. there was a report of shots fired and officers of an anti- crime unit saw the vehicle and started following it. at one point, the suspect allegedly pointed the weapon at the officers. the seng continued and crashed head on with a patrol car. exchange of gunfire. it is unclear whether or not

outside of the vehicle. there are many gunshots in the car. the car has front end damage and again two officers shot. one in the lower back, the other shot in his bullet- resistant vest. both officers taken to kings county hospital. again, they are expected to be okay. now, the suspect was taken to brookdale hospital. his condition unknown. he is said to be alive, but again, shot multiple times, taken to brookdale hospital. commissioner bratton visited the officers, got an update, and we are expecting a briefing from him. again two anti-crime officers shot around 3:30 in bed-stuy. they are expected to be okay. the suspect also remains hospitalized. we're live in bed-stuy. marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> thank you so much, marcus. let peace go to reporter dave evans who is live at kings

the two anti-crime officers were transported. dave? >> reporter: early this morning, you can see the emergency room behind me and flashing lights. i believe that the commissioner may have arrived about a minute ago. the mayor this morning, we saw him arriving about probably 15 or 20 minutes ago. i'm told by sources at city hall that we'll see an update probably around 7:00 from the mayor and police commissioner here at the hospital. i checked with sources at the police department and also at city hall early this morning. they told me the two officers will be okay, but they updated me on the condition. one of the officers as marcus said was shot in the back. that officer is now in surgery. the other officer may have been shot in the chest but was protected by the vest they were wearing. again, the two officers are in surgery right now here at kings county hospital. we expect an update probably around 7:00 from both the mayor and police commissioner. the last time we saw officers shot in the city, they were on vertical patrol in a housing project.

she started breathing on her own. >> what did she look like when you found her? >> she was blue and laid out on the floor. >> thank goodness for good samaritans out there. >> the spa's owner claims the drains in all of the pools and hot tubs have safety covers on them. the girl, meantime,in stable condition. the teenage driver who struck and killed a 4-year-old girl -- >> okay. >> we're going to shift gears and check back in with amy for a quick look at the forecast. nothing to complain about this saturday unlike the previous ones. >> no i know you guys are busy getting all of the details out. this is pretty much worry-free weather. incredible to see temperatures in the low 60s. that's 20 degrees above the average for this time of year, and expected forecast in the low 60s puts us on tap with the april 5th average for this time of year. >> april? >> at least april 5th.

breezy and warm 61 degrees. overnight it's patchy clouds, mild 43 for the overnight low and tomorrow we'll see sunshine to clouds with afternoon showers and temperatures in the low 50s. we get into late february and march and volatile and that's what's happening. tracking a winter mix, likely starting to snow and changing quickly over to rain. i think that's our best bet for the track that we're seeing right now on the computer models. temperatures staying in the low 30s and back to near 50 going into next weekend. that's the major change. what we're tracking right here for the potential winter storm is this coastal low coming up. if it keeps the track just west of us, it looks like more rain than anything else. if we tap into that arctic air, we could see light accumulations in spots. that's really the question mark

the teenage driver who struck and killed a 4-year-old girl while he was being chased was sentenced. he hung his head as aerial russo's grandmother talked about the pain of knowing she survived the accident that killed her granddaughter. case. he could be paroled in a year and a half. dr. mat nick video this morning of the horrific tourist helicopter crash. tourists pulled the chopper out of the water. this all happened thursday in hawaii near the pearl harbor visitor sent per ape bystander recorded the video. the family of four visiting from canada and the pilot made it out on their own. thank goodness. very lucky. a 15-year-old boy is still, though in critical condition after the crash. we turn now to an

we are seeing video this morning of a suspect in the slashing of a bus boy at a diner in greenwichvilleage. the first person you see is the teen who went on the attack. the victim 25-year-old bobby had to get 127 stitches. he spoke to us but did not want to show his badly scarred face. >> i hope they find them and arrest them. people like that aren't supposed to be out here. what they have to do is catch them, and i hope they do. >> bobby says the teen attacked after he asked him to leave because he was asking customers for money to support his basketball team. a man is waking up behind bars this morning after a three-day crime spree on the upper west side of manhattan.

as we get them, we'll bring them to you politically. big local news of course, all morning we've been following the shooting of two police officers in bed-stuy. they are expected to be okay right now. shannon is live above the scene in news copter 7. shannon, what can you tell us? >> reporter: this is a huge scene here. we know now that these were anti-crime officers that were reporting shots fired in this area when they arrived at the scene, they were involved in a head-on collision with the suspect vehicle. we're just going to bring you in here as you are looking down at the intersection of malcolm x boulevard left to right on the screen and you can see the front end damage to the car. that was the suspect vehicle that was involved in the accident with the police cruiser. we want to draw your attention up a little bit. you can see all of the evidence markers here in the street. they are literally littering the street. we've counted 38 so far since we've been on the scene.

we're hearing from police that the shots were exchanged after police saw the suspects present a weapon. what we know is that two officers were shot. we know one was shot in the back, both were moved to kings county hospital and both expected to survive. it appears that the suspect was shot as well. we brought the shot out to give you an idea of how massive this is. there is police tape all over the place. lexington avenue is shut down between stuyvesant avenue. that is malcox x boulevard. that is alive with police activity shutting it down. police investigate, first of all, what caused the shots to be fired in the first place and what caused the suspect to draw a weapon when police arrived on the scene. so a huge scene stuy. reporting live over brooklyn, shannon stone, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> again, those anti-crime officers are expected to survive. the suspect is in custody.

we have a shower or two scooting through right now in long island. the weak disturbance not producing a lot. it focuses on the temperatures, which are in the low to mid- 40s right now. the 24-hour temperature change, we're almost 30 degrees warmer now than we were yesterday at the same time. you can put the heavy coats aside. we go for 61 the last time december 11th, which was a stretch of 60s that lasted six days. this one, only over the weekend. a warm wave, if you will, and then we're tracking another winter storm early to mid-part of next week. these temperatures that we have over the weekend, saver them because we're looking at below freezing temperatures for overnight lows once we get into the middle part of the workweek. on sunday afternoon, the clouds hit the 50s and there could be a shower to end the weekend especially after 6:00 on sunday. while we'll see rain to the south, there could be a little snow for parts of the mid- hudson valley as that comes

safety of a spa in queens. all of this happened and the girl got her hair caught in the shallow pool. another spa customer trained in cpr revived that little girl after she was pulled out of the water. >> there were chest compressions. >> what did she look like when you saw her? >> she was blue, eyes clothes and laid out on the floor. >> the spa's owner claims the drains in all of the pools and hot tubs have safety covers on them. the girl, meantime,in stable condition. the teenage driver who struck and killed a 4-year-old girl as he was being chased by police on the upper west side has been sentenced up to nine years in prison.

his grandmother talked about the pain knowing she survived the crash that killed her granddaughter. reyes took a plea deal in the case. he could be paroled in a year and a half. this morning, the latest on former new york mayor david dinkins. he's 88 years old and waking up in the hospital for a lung infection. wees admitted to new york press bit -- he was admitted to new york presbyterian. doctors are testing him for pneumonia. his law partner tells us he is walking around. the former mayor was treated for pneumonia at this exact same hospital three years ago. coming up next on "eyewitness news" saturday morning, of course the latest on the news in brooklyn where two officers have been shot are expected to survive. the suspect also shot in all of this. he's been transported to the hospital in serious condition. he is in police custody and

line just participating in a gun collar yesterday and telling me how proud he was of the gun collar. here is a guy in his hospital bed, obviously in some pain, but very proud of the fact that just the day before, he got another gun off the street. by the way, as you heard the commissioner, he mentioned the shot spotter was a key part of the effective arrest the other day. he is the father of two with one more child on the way. we were there with his wife, and he was in great, great spirits. the other younger officer, three years on the job, obviously extraordinarily devoted to his work, having been taken under the wing by veteran officers. really someone focused on becoming as good a cop as he could be. his dad, mom, and wife were with him there. it's amazing to see the devotion of these officers and the relief their families felt being with them there knowing they will be all right. i want to take one more moment

i want to think doctor ajut for being here and all of the staff for everything they do. i want to thank everyone at fdny ems, the first responders that got there to help our officers right away. the bottom line today is thank god both of these officers -- no audio ] >> we lost the live feed right now from the news conference. the mayor and commissioner have been briefing the public on the details surrounding this police shooting. we'll go back to that. i know we have the audio. >> that's correct. we believe at this time there were a total of eight officers and three separate vehicles. four anti-crime in an unmarked vehicle. the psa officers who initiated the encounter and an additional two officers from the adjoining precinct. so a total of eight officers involved.

we're still determining how many. the suspect was armed with a .357 magnum revolver with five spent shell casings still in the revolver. he was struck numerous times. the circumstances were that the psa officers as i describe, hears the gunshot, basically saw the individual reported pointing a weapon out the window with them. they got back in their vehicle and began to pursue. the other officers responded to that pursuit. he, in fact, did ram one of the marked police cars that was coming at him. so we're still putting it together. it's a complex crime scene, several block crime scene. the mayor referenced shot spotter that all of the shooting was captured on the shot spotter. that device will be helpful to us in making a determination as to the specific sequencing of

the force investigation division will do a very shore row job. we will be able to provide names of the officers a little later today and just make sure all family members have, in fact, been notified, and one of the ironies is that one of the officers, his father was involved, now a retired officer, in a shooting incident a number of years ago where he was shot, and his bulletproof vest saved his life. so the irony, father/son a number of years apart both saved by the bulletproof vest that we require all of our officers now wear. >> reporter: commissioner can you tell us where they were when they were rammed? >> the two officers in the marked car, it was rammed by the suspect vehicle. the anti-crime vehicle investigately behind the suspects' vehicle and behind them another marked car with two officers. we believe those are the eight officers involved in the initial shooting situation.

as we put it together. as of now, two hours after the incident, that's what we know. >> reporter: the two officers vehicle? >> the two officers who were shot were in a vehicle. they were part of an anti-crime team, plain clothes. all of them were at the scene of the shooting. [inaudible speaker ] >> that's correct. that's the information we have at this time. anything else? [inaudible speaker ] >> i'm sorry? >> the suspect? >> one suspect only. he is in custody at the hospital in critical condition at the other hospital. we are now attempting to get additional information on him, his history, and what might have prompted him to threaten the police officers. [inaudible speaker ] >> that'll be part of the investigation as to what the initial shot was all about and the threatening behavior toward

>> thank you, commissioner. >> commissioner, anti-crime unit officers are they were in their car, they weren't approaching the suspect? >> the circumstances of the shooting itself, that's what we'll attempt to identify where were the various officers at the time of the incident. so as to whether they were in vehicles, out of vehicles, it's still too early and still preliminary on that. >> was the shooter in the vehicle? >> the shooter was in the vehicle throughout the whole incident, that's correct. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. >> we'll have more in addition at dcpi, the identity of the suspect as well as the two officers which is forthcoming. we want to make sure all of their families have been notified. >> the mayor and police commissioner wrapping upp press conference. giving us a fuller picture of what happened here still miles to go in this investigation. the good news here, both of the officers will survive their injuries. one cop was shot. they are both still unidentified pending family notification, of course. one was shot in the chest but in his vest.

the other was shot below his or her vest and shot in the right hip. they are all stable and alert according to the commissioner. the suspect, mean while, was

five spent casings in that gun, 45 shots at last count possibly at the scene. the two police officers are in the hospital. they are alert, they are to survive. >> one protected by the bulletproof vest, the other was shot below the vest and shot in the right hip. you heard the mayor praising literally the difference between life and death sometimes are the bulletproof vests. ironically enough, the father of one of the officers shot is a retired cop who years ago was shot in the line of duty. his life, also saved, by a bulletproof vest. >> amazing. >> a lot of details now beginning to emerge. officers will survive. suspect shot, in critical condition at brookdale but has been identified. >> great job this morning on getting that information. we're praying for their families. >> absolutely.

>> they are alert and speaking and able to talk to their families. that's the most important thing. >> they haven't identified them yet because they are waiting for the families to be notified. so we don't have names to pass along. >> you know, as we're hoping for them to be at ease, the comfort factor here for everyone with the weather, certainly is worry free. the sun is out, temperatures are up. we're actually rising with the temperatures overnight. we are at 44 right now in central park. looking over the west side out over the hudson, it looks like a fantastic day. guess what? it feels that way. we could get up to 15 degrees warmer, no problem at all. we're already in the upper 30s north and west. those out on the island. we've got 43, 45. so islip and river head up nicely. wet roads doesn't last long at all. no problems with all of that off to the east instead. it's sunshine and raising

into the 50s by the noon hour and pushing for 61 degrees. so we forecast that for today, but the weekend warm way, which keeps us in the 50s, will last through tomorrow. there is a wrinkle late on sunday. we are tracking this windsor storm for next week. this is something we've been watching for several days now. still a lot of questions on will it be rain or snow. the futurecast takes us into the 60s today, but 50s tomorrow afternoon. here we are sunday at 4:00. we're still in the upper 40s and low 50s. very warm and above average. then late on sunday, hear comes the rain-maker to the south of the city. potentially brief snow showers north of the city. monday a colder air mass is overhead so our temperatures will be stuck in the 40s for that day. this gives you a bigger look at what's happening on the futurecast. not even a storm in sight on

then we get this coming in sunday night. that's what can bring us the chance for showers. monday it's looking like a mix of sun and clouds. temperatures are still above average. by tuesday into wednesday, we'll be looking at another system coming in our direction with temperatures that are still fairly mild. so that's giving us an indication of the next storm maybe more rain than snow. breezy and warm. 61 won't break a record. that's the first time we've seen that number since december 11th. overnight, 43 degrees. our temperatures are barely falling and we're right back into the low 50s tomorrow with the easing showers on the futurecast. the accuweather seven-daybreaks down like this. a little wave of warm air. then by monday, temperatures are in the low 40s and rather wednesday. there's the chance for the winter storm. this one is a coastal system. it doesn't get the cold air in accumulating snow. that'll be the big question for us. so we still have to pay attention to this forecast.

so as we get closer to the track of the storm and the exact timing, then we can paint a better picture if it will be more wet than white, which is what we suspect this time if you see more rain than snow. enjoy the day. it is seaside heights that is going to have the polar bear plunge today. seaside heights. good luck to all of the plungers raising money for all of the special olympics. >> a bearable plunge. >> yeah. >> 60s on the beach, not bad. >> thank you, amy money it is now 7:57. our top story, two anti-crime officers have been shot. happened early this morning. the suspect is in police custody. >> marcus? >> reporter: rob and michelle, within the last 15 minutes, the police commissioner is saying that the officers are in stable condition. they are alert and are talking. they are expected to be okay.

all of this happening around 3:30 this morning at malcolm x in bed-stuy. two housing bureau officers heard shots fired and started to follow the suspect who allege ready i pointed a gun at him and took off in a car. vehicle. the car got into an accident with a responding patrol car, and then there was that exchange of gunfire. many shots fired. the two officers, one shot in the chest protected by his vest. the bullet did not go through. the other officer shot in the hip. both take ton kings county hospital and expect -- taken to kings county hospital. a .357 reshoveller was identified at the scene. again, the investigation into all of this still continues here in bed-stuy. we're live in bed-stuy, i'm marcus solis, channel 7
